To know about the fundamental of biological molecules you
mast know about the molecule. What is molecule? All mater is made of chemical
atom for example carbon hydrogen oxygen.
When atoms combine to form molecule. For example, H2O
(water) when two hydrogens and 1 oxygen combine with each other with specific
bond called one molecule of water.
Now the fundamental of biological molecules. biological
molecule is molecule that is present in living organisms, including large
macromolecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids, as
well as small molecules such as primary metabolites, secondary metabolites, and
natural products. All these are organic molecule organic molecules are those
molecules which have carbon in their structure and play a work like backbone in
their structure.
Now biomolecule is different from one another in their
structure and function of living body.
We study basic thing about these molecules and we will talk
more about these molecules in video see video link in discretion https://youtu.be/UMUaPVJM1-g this link is all about the
structure and functions monosaccharide. Letter we will study all about these
now we learn some basic thing about these molecules. So let’s get started
Carbohydrates: Monosaccharides are the simplest
form of carbohydrates with only one simple sugar. They have aldehyde or ketone
group in their structure. The prefix aldo indicate the presences of aldehyde
group in their structure. The prefix keto indicate the presences of keto group in their
structure. Examples of monosaccharides are the hexoses, glucose, fructose,
Trioses, Tetroses, Heptoses, galactose. If you learn more about the structure
of carbohydrate function of carbohydrates and classification of carbohydrates
links in the description.
Proteins: protein are made of
the combination of amino acid. Amino acid combines to form proteins. Amino
acids contain both amino functional group in their structure and carboxyl
functional group in their structure. Two types of protein one is alpha helix
and beta sheet. We will study more about the protein in next video.
Now come to the another macro
nutrient or biomolecules which lipids: lipids
are chiefly fatty acid and the basic building block of biological
membrane. E.g. cell membrane. The
biological role is energy storage. For example, triglyceride is the example of
energy storage molecules. How they store energy and provide energy us. There
are some process which we will discuss letter on in next video. Some fatty acid
is saturated and some are unsaturated some are dissolve in water and some are
not. We will brief study on these macronutrients are macromolecules this is the
overviews of these biomolecules.
